Ibiza & Mallorca Rocks | Opening & closing parties announced

Posted by: Paula Humphreys , December 13, 2011

Ibiza Rocks & Mallorca Rocks Opening & Closing Parties

Ibiza Rocks is once again lining up an ‘A Team’ of talent to take over the Balearics with Ed Sheeran confirmed to headline the opening parties of Mallorca Rocks (05 June) and Ibiza Rocks (06 June). Two Door Cinema Club will take pride of place for the closing parties in Mallorca (18 Sept) and Ibiza (19 Sept) to complete the 16 week-long, sun-drenched series of outdoor summer gigs crammed with outstanding talent.

Ed Sheeran is one of the biggest music sensations of the year. The critically acclaimed Suffolk singer-songwriter dominated the airwaves for months with massive hit ‘The A Team’, which quickly became the highest-selling and highest-charting debut single of 2011 and then went straight to the top of the charts with the release of his debut album ‘+’, which achieved double-platinum status in just 3 months. With influences ranging from Jay-Z to Damien Rice, Sheeran’s genre-defying blend of acoustic pop, folk, grime and hip-hop has earned him major awards recognition and a huge following. Fans are set to be out in full force when Ed Sheeran brings his biggest hits and best new material to the Balearics for the hugely anticipated Mallorca and Ibiza Rocks opening parties on Tuesday 05 & Wednesday 06 June respectively.

Since releasing their debut album ‘Tourist History’ in March 2010, Northern Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club have rapidly become one of the biggest new success stories across the globe. After selling out headline tours in the UK, US, Europe, Australia, Asia, Japan and South America, playing two successive sold out shows at Shepherds Bush Empire, selling out Brixton Academy in just a few hours, absolutely smashing the festival circuit with stand-out sets all summer and earning themselves headliner status of the forthcoming NME Awards Tour, the band have deservedly earned both a devoted word-of-mouth live following and huge critical acclaim. Two Door Cinema Club headline the closing parties of Mallorca and Ibiza Rocks on Tuesday 18 September and Wednesday 19 September respectively.

Kevin Baird, Two Door Cinema Club, said: “We’re very excited to be playing Ibiza and Mallorca Rocks next year! We’ve never performed over on the sunshine isle so it’s going to be a fun show. We’ve spoken to other artists who have performed there in the past and it’s supposed to be a crazy party! Looking forward to it.”

Shane Murray, Ibiza Rocks promoter, said: “We’re really excited and exceptionally proud to bring Ed Sheeran and Two Door Cinema Club to make their live debuts on the Rocks stages. It’s a real coup to bring such in demand artists to the Balearics – we’ve set the bar pretty high for the rest of the summer! Exciting, new music for the festival generation is what Rocks is all about and these exclusive shows are a perfect way to Open and Close. With 16 weeks and 32 gigs – our biggest season of live music under the stars awaits.”

The Ibiza Rocks brand consistently boasts a bill crammed with the biggest international artists and breakthrough talent live under the Balearic stars and offers a choice of quality accommodation options in Mallorca and Ibiza at exceptional value. It’s no wonder Ibiza Rocks is THE most popular international festival destination for the UK youth market and the brand’s destination concept hotels continue to attract a new generation of music lovers to Mallorca and Ibiza for the holiday, and gig of a lifetime.

Summer 2012 will see 32 ‘Rocks’ gigs across 16 consecutive weeks. Mallorca Rocks every Tuesday from 05 June – 18 September. Ibiza Rocks every Wednesday from 06 June to 19 September.

The ‘Rocks’ Story So Far:

Ibiza Rocks invaded the island of dance in 2005 by launching the groundbreaking series of live gigs, challenging common perceptions of Ibiza and everyone who doubted the concept’s success along the way. Ibiza Rocks set up some home at the legendary Bar M, hosting small intimate live gigs with the likes of Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Mark Ronson as special guests, bringing a new generation of music lovers to the island.

In 2008 came the macro youth hotel ‘Ibiza Rocks Hotel’ built around an outdoor live music venue and it’s phenomenal and fast paced success was emulated with the launch of Mallorca Rocks Hotel in 2010. The boutique hotel ‘Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes’ was the next natural step in 2011 and proved to be a smash hit, being named amongst the Top 100 Hotels in the World by Sunday Times Travel Magazine. With exciting new plans in place for 2012, including further accommodation options in the form of the Ibiza Rocks and Mallorca Rocks Hostels and a brand new weekend event which will see superstar DJ’s headlining the main stage in both Mallorca and Ibiza, another summer of mutual love and magical memories awaits.

Ibiza Rocks Hotel:

Since the Ibiza Rocks Hotel opened in May 2008, it has become the destination hotel, for a new generation of music lovers. The Hotel is the venue for the world famous Ibiza Rocks gigs taking place in the poolside courtyard on Wednesdays (6th June – 19th September 2012). All hotel bookings include tickets for the gig and a full Ibiza Rocks Hotel entertainment programme. The Hotel is just 300m from San Antonio’s West End and 500m from the famous sunset bars, beach and Ibiza Rocks Bar & Diner.

Mallorca Rocks Hotel:

Following in the footsteps of the hugely successful Ibiza Rocks Hotel, the Mallorca Rocks Hotel launched in 2010 and is bigger and better than anything Mallorca has ever seen before. The hotel is a massive 12-building affair set around a huge 85m lagoon-like pool where the amazing Mallorca Rocks gigs take place every Tuesday (5th June-18th September 2012). Surrounding this are 3 bars including the hip-hangout Backstage Bar, the Rocks Cantina and a Mallorca Rocks fashion store. Right in the heart of Magaluf and just a stone’s throw away from the resort’s main bars, nightlife and amazing sandy beach, location wise it couldn’t be better. Gig tickets and a full Mallorca Rocks entertainment programme are included in the price of holidays.

Mallorca Rocks Hotel is in partnership with the Fiesta Hotel Group. Fiesta Hotel Group is a Spanish hotel chain with over forty years of experience and a total of fifty hotels. The group is present in six countries (Spain, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Italy and Brazil) and with 7 brands: The Royal Suites by Palladium, Palladium Hotels & Resorts, Ayre Hoteles, Fiesta Hotels & Resorts, Fresh Apartments and Sa Talaia. Fiesta Hotel Group’s philosophy is based on high quality standards as well as products and services that are ideal for a wide variety of different travelers.www.fiestahotelgroup.com.

Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes:

Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes – named after its founder and all-round party legend/personality Tony Pike – reopened on 20th May 2011 as Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes. The 25 room boutique hotel was lovingly restored under the ownership and direction of Ibiza’s foremost live music promoters, Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle, the unstoppable partnership behind the Ibiza Rocks, Ibiza Rocks Hotel and Mallorca Rocks brands.

Ibiza Rocks House is a very different hotel to the brands much larger youth driven flag carriers (Ibiza Rocks Hotel and Mallorca Rocks Hotel). It is a luxury boutique hotel aimed at the more discerning customer. Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes was the place to be and be seen this summer. Pikes was the film set for Wham’s ‘Club Tropicana’ video and the exclusive party-retreat for the rock ‘n’ roll elite of the 1980’s, hosting Freddie Mercury, Grace Jones and Elton John, to name but a few. In the summer of 2011, it welcomed a new breed of rock star through Pikes newly polished doors.

Ibiza Rocks and Mallorca Rocks Hostals:

New for 2012 are the Ibiza Rocks and Mallorca Rocks Hostals, a budget alternative to staying at the Ibiza Rocks or Mallorca Rocks Hotel but with access to the Hotel’s facilities and entertainment programme. Hostals are located within 500m of the main Hotel complexes.
